Books That Cook       

Books that Cook campers will work closely in small groups to create delicious recipes pulled right out of their favorite literature! Campers will create their own journal-style recipe books and have the opportunity to draw illustrations to go with their recipes. Junior chefs and bakers will participate in each step of the cooking process: counting, measuring, pouring, and mixing…and of course, eating! At the end of each session, campers will bring home her/his own hand-made recipe book filled with their art, recipes, and book titles used at camp. Any allergies or dietary restrictions will be taken into account for every recipe used, ensuring that the experience is healthy and fun for all!

Session 1

In Books that Cook: Taste Buds, our young culinary minds will explore everything flavor imaginable. Taking a page right out of “Let’s Eat Together,” campers will work to expand their palletes with some tasty treats like Bruce Bogtrotter’s irresistible chocolate cake from Roald Dahl’s Matilda or Strega Nona’s famous noodles. Junior chefs and bakers will work closely in small groups to create sweet and savory dishes pulled right out of their favorite literature! We’ll participate in each step of the cooking process: counting, measuring, pouring, and mixing…and of course, eating! Grab your best bud and come join the fun in Books that Cook: Taste Buds!!

Session 2

This session in Books that Cook: Savor the Rainbow, we hope you are ready to experience the brighter side of food!! We will be using every possible color to create some of the most delicious, delectable, tasty treats you can imagine. You’ll use all five senses to experience new flavors and ingredients and discover the joys of cooking and baking. Our youngest cooks will take inspiration from our favorite children’s litera­ture as they learn how to follow recipes, mea­sure, and combine ingredients for delicious and nutritious creations. We’ll also mix up the day with exciting outdoor games to keep these little chefs moving and shaking all the way to the end of the rainbow!

    Scotty joined the Park School faculty in 2009, after completing his degree in youth development at Springfield College. His many summers working at 4-H overnight camp combined with his passion for sports, art, and the outdoors, help create a fun and interactive camp experience. With another wonder Summer at Park season approaching, he is confident that this will be the best year yet for activities, fun, and adventure.
